François Devienne Trios

François Devienne (1759–1803) was a leading virtuoso on the traverso and bassoon, but also a prolific composer of operas. His instrumental methods for his instruments were particularly influential. His influence can still be felt in Berlioz’s Instrumental Method.

His trios for flute, violin and cello are genuine chamber music, but with virtuoso passages. They are published here for the first time from an engraving in the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris.
