This source is by far the most comprehensive and important source of sacred works by Ciconia, Dufay, Arnold, Hugo de Lantins, etc. It was created around 1420-30 in Vicenza and Padua. It also contains several secular chansons. It is composed of various parts and reflects musical practice, as it contains numerous compositions based on faux bourdon, thus capturing improvisational practice. Until now, there has only been Margaret Bent’s exemplary facsimile edition, but no edition of the music itself. This finally fills a huge gap. Until now, most of the pieces had only been transcribed in old editions and American doctoral theses.
