Aosta Codex
Aosta, Seminario Maggiore, Biblioteca, Codex 15
This codex, which is so important for the sacred repertoire of the period 1410–40, is published here for the first time. It contains many ‘anonymous’ unique pieces, which were probably composed by leading English composers such as Dunstable and Power. As there is still no published edition of Lionel Power’s Mass settings, this edition represents a fundamental expansion of the repertoire of this composer that has been available to date.
The three parts, which were composed independently, were probably compiled under Emperor Sigismund. The fourth part in particular contains important pieces from the period of the Council of Basel, at which the unity of the Church was to be restored.
