Tadeusz Zielinski (1859 \u2013 1944) was not only a distinguished classicist, but one of the most influential cultural figures in Eastern and Central Europe. Born in Russia into a family of Polish origin, he enjoyed an excellent German education and deployed a remarkable teaching activity in Saint Petersburg. His scholarly works \u2013 many of them written in brilliant German \u2013 , his translations, popular books and articles published in Russian and other European languages found a large readership far beyond the limits of classical scholarship. Later he emigrated to Warsaw. He established cultural links between Russian, Polish, German, and classical culture.
