Laus Polyphoniae in Antwerpen

The 18th edition of Laus Polyphoniae leads music lovers to Portugal. In an edition brimming with cantigas, vilancicos and cançoes we engage on a quest for the soul of Lusitanian music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and early baroque. Cities such as Lisbon, Porto and Évora yield up their musical sources, while top composers such as Manuel Cardoso and Duarte Lobo get pride of place. You will hear music by Portuguese kings, but also by anonymous composers who temporarily sank into oblivion. Thus the festival programme will be steeped in that unique lovely, yet concurrently bitter, southern melancholy atmosphere that is so characteristic of the country of amor and saudade.
